Our Three Core Principles

Over the four years of mentoring students, we have found that curriculum-based social and emotional learning was not as helpful in our mentoring cohorts. We found our habits are more effective than going through a curriculum. We believe we become what we do. Here are the three things that we do at Forward:

  1. Gratitude - cultivating gratitude in every meeting, and learning to flip our complaints.

  2. Ownership - there’s a space for venting, but we will not blame others for our struggles. We take ownership.

  3. Accountability - we do what we say, and say what we do. Goal setting is only as good as our accountability to do what we say.
